Kid's Activity Books & Crayons

Crayons

Picture
I found this idea on several other knotties bios and loved the idea.  Here is my take on the shaped crayons.

The Trays

Picture
We purchased the ice cube trays from Ikea.  We had a star shape, heart shape, and flower shape. We also found Mickey Mouse shaped ice cube tray at Disneyland last week! I broke up the crayons and put them into the trays.  I pre-heated the oven to 300 and put them in for about 10 minutes (until the wax was fully melted).

They turned out pretty well.  The star shape ice cube tray didn't turn out.  Each of them would break off the tips when we tried to pop them out of the tray.  So we ended up doing 20 each of the heart and flower shaped crayons.  Each kid will get one heart and one flower shaped crayon in addition to regular crayons.  Since we found the Mickey Mouse tray we added 20 additional crayons so now each kid will have one of those as well.

Ring Pillow

Finished Product

Picture
I put this simple ring pillow together with:
.5 yard of red cotton
.5 yard of white cotton
Stitch Witchery
Polyfill
1 button
Thread
Ribbon
It came from the Feb. 2011 issue of Brides magazine.

Process

I cut 2 12x12 squares out of the red and white cotton.  Then placed the stitch witchery tape on the pattern side of the red cotton.  Used the iron to seal the seams.  Completed the corners with a chopstick.  Filled the pillow with some polyfill.  Sealed the final seam and sewed the button on with some basic white thread.  I tied the ribbon around the button and we are all set.  The whole thing cost about $15.  Not too bad considering the ones I have been looking at on Etsy were around $50.
